Options Map

Options Map

The Options Map is a heatmap grid that displays a selected metric across all strikes and all expirations for a given underlying asset simultaneously. Each cell represents one contract, and cells are color-graded relative to each other so that high and low values stand out visually across the entire surface.

Access the Options Map by clicking Options Data in the bottom toolbar and selecting Options Map.

You can run multiple widgets at the same time — click Add a Widget in the Options Data toolbar to add an additional Options Chain or Options Map alongside your existing panels.

Metric
Select which value to display in each cell. Available metrics:

Ask, Ask-Bid Spread, Bid, Delta, Delta × OI, Gamma, Gamma × OI, Implied Volatility, Last Price, OI Change, Open Interest (OI), Price Change%, Put - Call IV, Put - Call OI, Put - Call Volume, Put/Call Ratio OI, Put/Call Ratio Volume, Theta, Theta × OI, Vega, Vega × OI, Volume Today, Volume/OI

For definitions of each metric, see Options Terminology.

Option Type
For metrics that are side-specific (such as OI, Volume, or Delta), select whether to display values for Calls or Puts.

Heatmap Highlighting
Controls how the color gradient is calculated:

  • Entire Grid — values are graded relative to every cell in the map
  • By Strike — values are graded relative to other cells in the same row
  • By Expiration — values are graded relative to other cells in the same column

Ignore Stale
When enabled, contracts with stale or unreliable data are excluded from the heatmap color calculations.

Strike Filter
Set the increment between displayed strikes: $1, $5, or $10.

Strike Range
Set how far above and below the current price to display strikes: ±$10, ±$20, ±$30, ±$50, or ±$100.

Expiration Filter
Limit which expirations are shown: No Filter, Weekly only, Monthly only, or Quarterly only.

Symbol
Set the map to follow the symbol currently active on your chart, or assign a symbol explicitly so it stays fixed regardless of what chart you are viewing.

Totals Row and Column

For most metrics the map displays a totals row at the bottom of each expiration column and a totals column on the right side of each strike row. This lets you quickly identify which expiration has the highest aggregate value and which strike has the most concentration across all expirations.

Totals are not shown for metrics where aggregation is not meaningful: Ask, Bid, Delta, Gamma, Implied Volatility, Last Price, Price Change%, Put - Call IV, Put/Call Ratio, Theta, Vega, and Volume/OI.

Interacting with Cells

Left-click a contract
Opens that contract on your chart.

Right-click a contract

  • Hide from table — removes that contract from the map and excludes it from heatmap color calculations. This is useful when an outlier value is distorting the color gradient and making the rest of the map unreadable.
  • Add color flag — marks the contract with a color label for reference.
  • Add to watchlist — adds that specific contract to a watchlist.

Interacting with Rows and Columns

Right-click an expiration date in the column header or a strike in the leftmost column to:

  • Hide all contracts at [strike/expiration] — collapses that row or column from the map
  • Unhide all contracts at [strike/expiration] — restores a previously hidden row or column
  • Create a watchlist — builds a watchlist from all visible contracts in that row or column

Hiding entire rows or columns is useful for removing 0DTE expirations or illiquid strikes that would otherwise skew the heatmap.

Download and Watchlist Creation

Click the down arrow in the top-right corner of the Options Map to:

Download as CSV — exports the current map view with all visible metrics and values.

Create a watchlist — opens a filter dialog where you define the contracts you want included based on:

  • Strike range
  • Days to expiration range
  • The metric currently selected on the map

The dialog shows a live count of matching contracts before you create the list.

Data Notes

  • Options Map requires an active OPRA subscription. See Billing and Refund Policy for pricing details.
  • OPRA data can only be consumed from one device at a time. Accessing options data simultaneously from a second device will cause errors on one of the sessions.
  • Options on futures are not covered by OPRA and are not available in the map, but options for CBOE Indices ($SPX) are available.
  • Implied Volatility and Greeks are calculated using the Black-Scholes model.
